TCM Classic Film Festival Announcements

Last August it was announced that the next TCM Classic Film Festival will take place in Hollywood next April 26th to 29th, 2018.

This year's festival celebrates "Powerful Words: The Page Onscreen."

This week it was announced that tickets for the festival will go on sale November 9th. Pass descriptions and prices are on the festival website.

The first eight movie titles for the 2018 festival have also been announced. I'm especially excited about THE SET-UP (1949), starring Robert Ryan and Audrey Totter; I've been holding out on watching it on DVD in hopes of seeing it for the first time in a theater.

I'd also really enjoy seeing BULLITT (1968) and its famous car chase on a big screen!

Other announced titles: A 70th anniversary screening of Olivier's HAMLET (1948); Tracy and Hepburn in their first film together, WOMAN OF THE YEAR (1942); the restored full-length THE SEA WOLF (1941), which I'll be reviewing here soon on Blu-ray; the classic comedy HIS GIRL FRIDAY (1940), seen at left; THE TAKING OF PELHAM ONE TWO THREE (1974); and THE BLACK STALLION (1979).

I'll be sharing more festival updates as news is released.

I feel sure you will be making your way to this fest next April, Laura!

"THE SET-UP" is, for me, the best film ever made about the fight game. Ryan and Totter are outstanding. I look forward to your review!

As for "BULLITT", I'll never forget going to see it on release on the big screen and going slightly 'green' as the viewer goes on a roller-coaster ride down SF's streets at high speed. Unforgettable action.

The Set-Up, The Sea Wolf, and His Girl Friday are three of my favourite films.

The Set-Up was the second in my ongoing series of one choice from TCM each month, way back in 2011. Time flies, but a classic remains a classic forever.

Thanks very much, everyone, it's great to hear how highly regarded THE SET-UP is. Really hope I get to see it there next year!!

Best wishes,
Laura
